How we keep the directory honest

No dark patterns. No undisclosed margin.

Verified by ReconPe

Every Verified badge on the directory is the team manually reviewing the ICAI membership / GST practitioner ID / references. Not auto-issued when a credential is entered.

ReconPe is not in the money flow

Engagement terms are between you and the bookkeeper. ReconPe takes a flat listing subscription from the bookkeeper — no per-engagement commission, no escrow, no hidden margin.

Typical response time tracked

Each profile shows the bookkeeper's average response window. Verified practitioners typically respond by email within a day. Slow responders drop out of the directory.

Frequently asked

Common questions about hiring a fractional bookkeeper

+What is a fractional bookkeeper?

A fractional bookkeeper is an independent practitioner who handles bookkeeping, GST filings, marketplace reconciliation, and monthly close on a part-time basis — typically 8 to 20 hours a month for a single client — instead of joining as a full-time employee. In India, a fractional bookkeeper is usually a Chartered Accountant (ICAI), a registered GST practitioner, or an experienced practitioner working under a CA's supervision.

+How much does a fractional bookkeeper cost in India?

Hourly rates on the ReconPe directory typically range from ₹500 to ₹2,500 per hour depending on credentials and specialty. Retained engagements for an Indian SMB usually fall in the 8 to 20 hours per month band. A monthly retainer is therefore commonly between ₹10,000 and ₹50,000, considerably cheaper than a full-time controller (₹8 to 15 lakh per year).

+Is the verified badge auto-issued when a bookkeeper signs up?

No. The Verified badge on the ReconPe directory is granted only after the team manually reviews ICAI membership, GST practitioner ID, or equivalent credentials and references. It is not auto-issued when a credential is entered into a form. Verification is the slow step in the onboarding flow on purpose.

+Does ReconPe take a commission on bookkeeper engagements?

No. ReconPe takes a flat monthly listing subscription from listed bookkeepers. There is no per-engagement commission, no escrow, and no hidden margin. Engagement terms — hourly, project, or retained — are agreed directly between the client and the bookkeeper. ReconPe stays out of the money flow.

+What credentials does ReconPe verify before listing a bookkeeper?

ReconPe checks ICAI membership numbers, GST practitioner IDs, business registration details, and at least two client references. Where a practitioner is not a credentialled CA or GSTP, ReconPe verifies years of practice, sample work, and supervisory CA association if relevant. Documentation is reviewed by a human reviewer, not by an automated check.

+Can a Chartered Accountant be on the ReconPe bookkeeper directory?

Yes. ICAI-registered Chartered Accountants make up a large share of the directory, particularly for clients who need GSTR-9 / 9C annual filings, departmental notice responses, audit-pack preparation, or Form 26AS / TDS reconciliation alongside operational bookkeeping. CAs can list and engage on the same hourly, project, or retained terms as non-CA bookkeepers.
